Story of the Month

CASEWORKER HIGHLIGHT- Samuel Cortina is a special investigator for the Department of Family and Protective Services. His job is to investigate child abuse cases in Travis county. His background includes work in such organizations as the Child Abduction Unit, Welfare Fraud Office, Child Abuse/Sexual Assault Unit, and the Gang Suppression and Investigation Team, among others. He has been married to his wife Carolyn for 22 years and has two young children, Jonathan, 11 and Savannah, 10.

During his time as a police officer, Samuel kept a trunk full of various items for the children he often encountered including teddy bears, blankets, crayons and stickers. In order to keep his trunk stocked, he often used his own personal finances as well as assistance from local community groups.

He tells us, "The Rainbow Room alleviates this stress and allows me to focus on my families. To know someone cares enough to work with them and offer the possibility or hope that help was on the way was enough to provide the family with a little comfort."

It is because of caseworkers like Samuel that the Rainbow Room is able to help the many children of our community feel the hope of a new beginning. Because of his extraordinary work and utilization of the Rainbow Room, we honor Samuel Cortina as our Caseworker of the Month!
