What We Do

Our mission continues to be to cultivate resources and partnerships that directly benefit abused and neglected children in the Travis County area while providing support to CPS caseworkers. Our major programs are the Rainbow Room, Holiday Wishes, Special Request and the YES Mentor Program.

The Rainbow Rooms are resource centers located within CPS headquarters and distribute new essential items such as clothing, formula, diapers, food, and hygiene supplies to clients of CPS caseworkers for free 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Before Partnerships for Children’s projects were developed, CPS caseworkers were often financially burdened with the purchase of necessary items for their young clients. Tracking down these items also took valuable time away from the families they were serving. The Rainbow Rooms allow caseworkers to smooth the transition by providing the child needed resources to alleviate some of the tension.

Our Holiday Wishes program provides gifts to children who might otherwise not experience the joy of the holiday season and opening presents. The Special Request program is a project that provides larger items that are not generally stocked in the Rainbow Room. These requests include a wide range of items such as twin beds, car seats, medications, or equipment so that a child may participate in sports.

The YES Mentor Program is designed for teens who are 16 to 18 years old and are faced with aging out of the foster care system. The overall goal of the program is to prepare the participants for adult living with an emphasis on financial literacy, independence and emotional support.

In addition to the major programs listed above we also work with CPS to provide programs for teens, support for Family Group Conferencing, and special activities for foster families. PC also seeks to promote community involvement, education and awareness of the needs of children in crisis in the Austin and Travis County area. Our programs are designed to provide support for our children at times when it is most painful to be a CPS child.
