Adopt-A-Caseworker

Adopt-A-Caseworker is a volunteer project, which helps to connect CPS caseworkers with community groups in an effort to meet the needs of abused and neglected children. The adopting group provides emotional support to the caseworkers, along with establishing a fund for the families and children on their caseload to provide those families with items that may not be available to them through the Rainbow Room on a regular basis.

Through this project, a CPS caseworker is matched with a community group. When a caseworker has a specific need for a client on his/her caseload, which cannot be met through available resources, he or she can access the fund set up to meet the families' needs.

There are many different types of needs an adopting group can meet. One might be for a child who had never had a birthday gift. The fund could provide a birthday cake, balloons and a simple gift.

Caseworkers work with children who are in the custody of CPS and are responsible for developing plans for parents and children and monitoring these relationships. Many of the families that the caseworkers work with do not have the money to purchase beds for their children, nutritious food to last the week or transportation to find or keep a job.

Providing help with some of these needs help our caseworkers establish a better relationship with parents, which encourages them to work on their parenting skills, child safety, and self-sufficiency.
