National Child Abuse Prevention Month: Partnerships for Strengthening Families
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time for communities to come together in support of children's safety, wellbeing, and futures. This month is a powerful opportunity to reflect on the ways we can all contribute to building nurturing environments where children can thrive, grow, and feel safe. Join us in building a hopeful future together.
Partnerships for Children's mission centers around supporting children and families who have had contact with Child Protective Services. Preventing child abuse means addressing the most common root causes of family instability. From basic health and hygiene supplies to opportunities for community connection, offering consistent, compassionate support aims provide dignity and hope to families navigating the most uncertain circumstances.
One key way we work to prevent abuse is through meeting the immediate physical needs of families with an open CPS case. Our Rainbow Room ensures children and families interacting with CPS have access to essentials – items like toothbrushes, clean clothes, school supplies, cleaning products, car seats, mattresses, and so much more. Access to resources helps strengthen family systems and reduce the risk of neglect.

Beyond physical resources, KING Mentoring pairs children who have had experience with the foster care system with local musicians. Through weekly music lessons, KING Youth have a creative outlet, emotional support, and a safe, supportive environment with trusted adults.
Prevention is a collective effort. Foster Community connects families with tools, education, and a network of support. By providing clear, accessible information and connecting caregivers with community-based resources, Foster Community is dedicated to enhancing support for families involved with or at risk of involvement with the child welfare system.
Strong communities build strong families. It takes all of us to create a safer, more supportive world for every child. This National Child Abuse Prevention Month, we continue in our commitment to the work of strengthening families, empowering youth, and promoting a culture of care in our community.
